The Swiss company Protoscar has finally unveiled their third generation iteration of the advanced electric Lampo series. Aptly christened as the LAMPO3, this 2+2 coupé was unveiled in Zürich, on 11th May.
The muscled tubular steel chassis – reminiscent of the Lightning McQueen (partly because of the inspiration of Le Mans endurance racer) – is infused with the all-Brusa drivetrain, offering 420 kW (550 horsepower) and 900 Nm (660 lb-ft) of torque. Developed from the experience gathered from driving the previous two models some 30,000 km (18,641 miles), the specs were always expected to be superior and sturdy.
Coming to the performance, the lightweight composite bodied coupé accelerates to 100 km/h (62 miles per hour) in 4.5 seconds and reaches a fine top speed of 220 km/h (136 mph). The extended range is touted to be 200 km (124 mile) powered by a 32 kWh battery made from four water-cooled Brusa-branded packs using cells from Kokam. The whopping 22 kW on-board charger (in comparison to Nissan Leaf’s 3.3Kw) also reduces the total charging time to only one and a half hours. The car additionally features a CHAdeMO interface for DC fast charging, which can in effect provide a range of 100 km (62 miles) from just 10 minutes of charging.
As regarding further demonstrations and production, according to the company:
The real performance of LAMPO3 will be demonstrated on different test-tracks during the year 2011 by the winner of the 2010 GT1 24 hours of LeMans, Mr Gabriele Gardel. Catch him … if you can! (And) for the first time a LAMPO concept could be produced in a micro-series for public customers such as companies involved in the EV development, entities dealing with the promotion of EVs and private enthusiasts.
