Diver House: A customized lake-side home made out of reclaimed products

Diver House

East Lake Builders are popular for creating homes that are custom-built to their client’s tastes. However, this time, their clients wanted them to make their abode a sustainable and green one! The owners of the Diver House – Wayne and Donna Brusate – have the luxury of a riverside home that lies on the west bank of St. Claire River.

Being owners of a commercial diving business, they absolutely adore all things that have nautical relevance and they embarked on to get their home built in a fashion that would accommodate reclaimed nautical gear for interiors. To begin with, more than 17,000 feet of old barn wood was used in the home in order to give it a dive shop atmosphere.

Apart from that, the house has many sustainable features wherein energy is efficiently used and conserved. Spray foam insulation and Loewen triple pane windows are used for keeping the house warm. There is also a very specialized geothermal mechanism that heats the interior and exterior concrete. The Diver House is not only a house that exudes comfort and design, but has a very low carbon footprint by adopting energy saving features and using reclaimed material – a ‘green’ house by the blue water!
