Developed by ambitious Dutch design house Studio Marco Vermeulen, the Moerdijk Logistics Park radically reimagines the purposes that the otherwise neglected public space between busy interstate highways can be put to.
Specializing in urban design, landscape, research and architecture, the design studio plans for the Logistics Park Moerdijk (LPM) to be situated at a unique location between the A16 and A17 highways and the Antwerp-Rotterdam railroad line. With the Moerdijk harbor close by, the junction is a prime spot for commuters of all kinds and serves as a great location for a sustainably developed transit area for goods and people.
Using new typologies and innovative solutions, the high-tech park would connect the industrial area around the harbor and the commute lines and allow the development of an innovative and sustainable business area that would optimize the space for public and business use. The LPM would be developed in ways that would allow it to contribute not only to neighboring businesses via exchange of surplus industrial heat as a source of energy, but also enrich the landscape and add to the economic value of the area.
Separated from the regular infrastructure, the Logistics Park addresses the problem of space scarcity in the country and looks to provide an innovative concept that maximizes the available public space and uses self-sustainable energy- and water-management technologies that would allow the structure to deliver electricity to the public grid and also recycle the water used by it.
Using compact development units, the park would feature a back to back, side-by-side structure with connected office buildings maximizing the space. The edges of the development unit will house all the loading bays and offices to provide a seamless yet fully-functional and easily accessible business space. By using high-quality, uniform material and color, the façade of the building looks to provide a classy upscale look to the complex that emphasized the modernity of the Dutch economy without threatening the serenity of the surrounding countryside.
