Cadillac and luxury go together, but picturing it with extended-range electric vehicles is definitely something interesting that would captivate the senses of all those who were awaiting a more luxurious, yet energy conserving vehicle. General Motors revealed the Cadillac ELR Coupe, the much awaited luxury extended-range electric car.
The new magnificent car features an electric motor that can power the car when battery is fully charged. Once battery charge runs low, the ELR switches to gasoline energy to power a generator, which recharges the car’s battery, thereby increasing the distance covered by the car. The owner has a choice to either use gasoline or electricity, as one can recharge the battery at convenience and save on gasoline. The Cadillac ELR also features a Voltec Powertrain, as it is already in use in The Volt; its other extended range electric vehicle.
Electric vehicle recharging can take a few hours and hence a sudden requirement to recharge the electric battery might demand the driver’s patience and planning ahead of time. Electric car benefits the owner in terms of fuel consumption as with ever increasing fuel price hikes, the owner has an advantage of saving on the fuel costs without altering their daily driving schedules. General Motors’ Chevy Volt also employs the same technology. The Cadillac ELR uses the same version of Voltec that engines the Volt; it has four cylinder 1.4L generators thus enabling this car as a close revamped edition of Volt.
With such innovative, cost saving technology at hand, the competition from other brands is inevitable. Car manufacturer BMW has already divulged the details of their extended-range electric vehicle; they further revealed that BMW i8 would be a sporty electric hybrid car that would easily run from 0 to 62 miles per hour within 5 seconds. Also accompanying the new BMW i8 model would be the BMW i3 mini, which is to be sold as a battery powered and range-extended model, thereby giving the buyer an interesting toy to take home.
Cadillac ELR is leaving no stones unturned with its redefined technology and such exquisite vehicle design. The futuristic ideas and concepts engineered have shaped Cadillac ELR, which is certainly the perfect blend for the consumers who are not so sure of complete electric cars. Cadillac ELR gives the consumers an appealing unification of gasoline and electric car.
