Synthetic skin! Yes, the Australian researchers are developing a new kind of skin – its synthetic. It could save the lives of victims suffering from burns. It can as well eliminate the need and rather the whole concept of skin grafting.
The synthetic skin is a polymer, a biodegradable one, and thus can be used as a protective coating, or can even replace skin altogether. This is developed by Adelaide burns specialist Dr John Greenwood, teamed up with Melbourne company, PolyNovo. Since it is a polymer, its manufacturing cost is also cheap.
