Here is an innovative and a new digester that can convert food scraps and other waste into natural gas and methane, which can then be converted to electricity. It has been formally unveiled by the University of California at Davis.
The environment-friendly system has been developed by the university and Onsite Power Systems. It is a sealed network of tubes and chambers where bacteria consume leftovers excreting gases.
The system is capable of converting about eight tons of garbage a week! It will eventually process eight tons of garbage a day! According to the university, where a ton of garbage provides enough electricity to power 10 average California homes for a day!
If similar systems are used in the state, California will not only be relieved of its day’s produced garbage, but also provide electricity to its homes from renewable sources.
