The sun will drive our future, just like it sustained our past & enabled our existence on this planet. But it will sustain the future in a very different way. Scientists & environmentalists claim that by the end of this century, the world will run completely on solar energy. A thought, which seems highly optimistic; but also equally encouraging. Solar energy will drive our future.
Experts say that the market in solar energy is growing rapidly & the cost of production is going down by a good 5% each year. While no one would argue both about the availability of this energy in abundance or its reliability, the problem seems to arise mainly with the economics of the idea. World economy is mostly not interested in investing in to this wonderful thought. While this might change very quickly for the sunny parts of the world, it seems as if the more cloudy regions like UK will catch up slowly. (Weather in UK is indeed such a drag. It rains almost every time)
While the world will have to eventually open up to the reality, the growing fuel prices in world market might just be a help in this direction. Grid parity is considered as a major step towards cost reduction. Germany, the leading country in the world to embrace solar energy, is also very slow in its progress. This speaks volumes about the direction of the whole process. By the turn of the century we might all be driving on the power of the sun. Wind industry will also play a part, but maybe not in such a major way.
So take my advice for once & from now on buy solar stuff as often as you can. It might be the best investment you ever made. The industry grows by 40% an year despite present constraints. So without a shadow of a doubt, the path to future is full with solar panels!
