The U.S. Countians seem to be enthusiastically gearing up to help paint the planet green. This is well revealed by the state of Kentucky’s Whitley county residents’ efforts. It all happened last week with 30 volunteers – the countians dropped waste tires at two locations as a charity. The county’s response was overwhelming, though it has undertaken such a noble venture for the third time.
Of the two drop off locations, the Corbin speedway this time, had received used racing car tires from competitors besides the usual truck, tractor and car tires. Approximately 88,000 Whitley County tires are on the way to be recycled!
Co-solid waste coordinator Tracy West said,
We had four or five tractor-trailer loads (at the Corbin Speedway). We’ve estimated over 44,000 tires at the Corbin Speedway and about the same at Williamsburg.
Funded by the state legislature and rotating through 120 U.S. counties, the tire amnesty is of effective help to the banks — keeping the tires from being dumped over there. The most overwhelming part of the whole venture is the active participation of the county jail prisoners, along with the volunteers, county employees and state workers.
Awareness at the grassroots and results at the acme are perhaps the most sustainable initiatives towards nursing the ailing planet.
