It is a bit of a surprise that people across the globe can still afford to have a garden in their own backyard, but will growing demand for land and the living space growing vertically upwards, it becomes almost impossible for many to even think about one. It is nice that many can still afford that, but with each passing day it is becoming a luxury in the big cities. I for one know what it feels like not to have one and hopefully will have one in near future. But for those who do have one and for many who take care of public gardens, here is a wonderful gadget to help you.
Revolve is an automated solar powered water timer for your garden and even if you do live in a place where the sun does not shine all too well, it can still run on batteries. Revolve looks more like a prototype for now, that could use some fine tuning from a commercial project firm. But considering that it was just a model in a graduate program, it is still doing pretty well. It uses a solar panel to charge itself up and it has an LCD screen for display.
You can set the patterns for watering on the LCD screen and then the solar panel along with the single valve do the rest of the job. You will not have to worry about making sure it is on time and the best part is that it does not need any external current source or even batteries when the sun is out. Considering 99% of gardens are bathed in sun, this makes it an ideal for the purpose. The designer is supposedly in his second year of graduation and that is really nice. More such designs could surely help the planet.
