The Olympic Games are just around the corner and teams are already out there to make their presence felt. The Canadians, however, have chosen a rather novel approach to advertise themselves by bringing out their concerns for the future of the planet into focus. Apparently, the Canadian teams at the games will be seen sporting uniforms made from organic materials like bamboo, organic cotton and cacona with hints of forest green highlighting the nation’s concern for preservation of forests along with the patriotic red and white colors.
The fashion line showing off Canada’s official Olympic 2008 clothing was displayed at a fashion show in Toronto on April 30th and featured Canada’s national symbol, the maple leaf, along with other graphic patterns integrating Chinese symbols like the number 8 and the five primary elements of Chinese astrology: earth, fire, wood, water and metal. The banner t-shirt, expected to be the best selling item from the line, will have the representative colors of these elements splashed across them along with the traditional Canadian symbols.
But the costumes themselves got a less than enthusiastic response from Canadian citizens themselves who tipped the outfit as being too loud for the nation’s taste. Here’s a video from a local news broadcast for you to enjoy.
