Using kinetic energy to juice of gadgets is not too novel. However, I haven’t seen its application widely spread. But Kenneth Tay intends to revive this green method of powering doodads by devising a music player on the same lines. Dubbed as Shake, its uber simple to understand that this MP3 can be charged by shaking! No prizes for guessing that. This action of shaking the player to charge it is akin to the shaking a pocket watch to wind it. And to understand how this works, let’s get inside this player. An electromagnetic coil is connected to the battery that converts kinetic energy into electrical energy that charges battery. The player connects to the computer via a USB cable through the headphone jack, facilitating the transfer of songs as well as the conventional method of charging.
For play/pause, you need to shake once but to charge it, you need to keep it shaking continuously. Gosh, the latter part doesn’t sound too encouraging. Bid adieu to batteries and grids!
