Eco Factor: Electricity-generating shoes for charging your gear.
Scientists say that the credit of life on Earth goes to nothing else but water. Those were early days, until someone figured out a way to generate electricity in huge dams using nothing else but water. Some scientists now feel that they don’t need huge concrete structures to generate electricity as shoes can solve the purpose – at least for your iPod.
Researchers at Japanese telecommunication company NTT claim that they are developing shoes that can generate 1.2 watts of electricity, which can be used to feed your cellphone or iPod. These water-filled-sole shoes generate electricity as the wearer’s movement churns up small turbines, which in turn generates electricity. The company plans to get these shoes in Japanese showrooms as early as 2010.
The Dark Side:
Apart from weird looks, the only downside that we see is that the shoes don’t store any electricity in them. So whenever your gear needs a charge you don’t only have to plug it to your shoes, but also keep walking endlessly!
