Eco Factor: Solar and wind powered shelter for those who enjoy staying in the peaceful ambiance of the mountains.

The peaceful environment and the natural beauty have always attracted enthusiasts to the mountains. While some carry their tents along for staying on the highest peak, some just reach the top for a day’s fun and come back in the cold evenings. Studio Lovegrove have designed a glass mountain shelter called the Alpine Capsule, which could just tempt visitors to stay overnight.

The proposed capsule is made from glass with a reflective coating and has a diameter of eight meters. The capsule has been designed in a fashion allowing a spectacular 360 degree view of the mountains. The shelter will be located in the Italian Alps and construction on the same should commence in 2010. The shelter is completely off grid and generates all the power it need from solar panels that are coupled with vertical axis wind turbines.

The Dark Side:

Apart from the normal disadvantages associated with solar energy, we didn’t find any other problem that visitors might confront living in this capsule.
