Eco Factor: Computer giant Dell’s energy-efficient OptiPlex desktop systems saved huge amounts of CO2.
Computer giant Dell has just announced that the company’s OptiPlex desktop users have saved a whopping $3 million worth of electricity and 29 million tons of CO2 from being released into the atmosphere. The company which just got the Energy Star 5.0 status for its machines also stated that they are executing their pledge to lower the environmental impact of technology, by developing computers that not only are the best in the class but also save huge amounts of energy and CO2.
The computers that promise to consume 43 percent less energy that other models are powered by low-power Intel Core 2 Duo processors and carry energy-efficient 2.5-inch hard disk drives. They also come with a energy efficient power supply.
The Dark Side:
Though energy-efficient the computers cost much more than other models with similar specifications. However, if Dell’s claims are to be believed then you can get the additional expenditure back through lower electricity bills.
