Eco Factor: Railway station powered by thousands of solar panels.

The rapid growth of industrialization in China made it the world leader in electronic technology. Though this growth made it the fastest growing economy in the world, it came at the cost of the environment. The country is now planning to better its image by building Asia’s largest railway station that is powered by solar energy.

Known as Beijing South, the railway station’s hall is big enough to fit a Boeing 747, has a roof area of the size of 24 football pitches and can serve 30,000 passengers an hour utilizing the services of just 150 people. The feature that caught our attention is that the station utilizes solar energy at a scale no one ever imagined. The enormous roof is covered by 3246 solar panels that generate enough energy to power the railway station.

The Dark Side:

The efforts put in by the government of China are praiseworthy. We can just hope that other projects under construction in China are just as green to complement the Beijing South.
