Eco Factor: Solar-powered battery charger.
Battery giant Energizer has stated that the company will be rolling out their first solar-powered AA and AAA battery charger at the CES 2009 to be held in Las Vegas in January. GoodCleanTech managed to get exclusive images of the product, which really looks like a clamshell cellphone, where the display is replaced by solar panels and the keypad section by battery slots. The device will feature a USB-out port to charge some of your portable electronic gear. The charger will also allow users to charge the products using a conventional wall socket in the absence of the sun. Scheduled to debut sometime in the first half of 2009, the charger will bear a price tag of $49.99.
The Dark Side:
The device will have to compete with other solar chargers that can recharge everything from cellphones to laptops. The product however, recharges AAA and AA batteries, which except from powering remote controls are comparatively outdated.
