Eco Architecture: Self-sufficient Eco-Capsule, a Flintstone home of the future

Eco Factor: Renewable energy generating, self-sufficient home.

Slovakia-based Nice Architects have crafted their dreams of a sustainable world, into a conceptual dwelling that could take us to the Stone Age in style and simplicity. The housing concept is a combination of a wagon, RV trailer and all aerodynamic eco-capsule with all modern living amenities inside. The capsule is self-sufficient in terms of energy, water and waste.

The Eco-Capsule is to be developed from sustainable materials, and could serve as both living quarters and mobile quarters that could be towed behind a vehicle. When stationary, the capsule can be expanded to form an open air studio space. The capsule has been made using recycled aluminum can tiles, which reduce solar gain and reduce the capsule’s energy requirement.

The capsule runs 270 sq-feet, which is ample space for two people to live in. For energy the concept depends on either solar and wind energy generators, which they’ll come equipped with. A reservoir on top of the capsule collects rainwater and can also serve as an emergency sleeping space. Waste collecting compartments are located below the structure, where gray water is recycled and solid waste is converted into compost that could be used for gardening.

The Dark Side:

The Eco-Capsule does show a way future dwellings could go green without sacrificing the overall aesthetics. However, along with a sustainable future, they could make people live a nomadic life, which considering the lifestyle of today doesn’t seem practical at all.
