Eco Factor: Rafts made from recycled materials encourage recycling.
Brooklyn-based artist, Swoon, knows how to use trash to encourage people to conserve the environment and promote recycling. She is about to launch her third fleet of junk rafts that have been crafted from construction site cast-offs and recycled scraps, which no one likes to see littered on the streets. The designer is planning a new adventure, entitled “Swimming Cities of Serenissima,” which will include three junk rafts built by her. The rafts will take on the open seas through the Adriatic Sea from Slovenia to Venice in May 2009.
While on voyage, the crew members will collect trash floating on the water and incorporate it into the rafts. The completed rafts will then be showcased in Venice. Each of the rafts carries a unique name which somehow relates to the overall creativity of the design team and the crew members.
The Dark Side:
The team might collect a huge amount of junk floating on water. However, once the rafts reach their final destination in Venice, the junk would again need proper recycling.
