Eco Architecture: Recycling events to raise funds for new playground

green playgroundEco Factor: “Green” community playground to be built using money raised by recycling events.

Swampscott’s Jackson Park Playground Committee is trying to build a green community playground, funds for which will come from recycling events conducted by the committee. The authorities have urged local residents to dispose of unwanted metal, which can be used to raise funds and also help the environment by preventing that metal from reaching landfills.

While there are no rules as to what can be disposed of, the authorities have urged the residents not to dispose of metal which contains mercury or any other harmful chemical that can make the recycling process cumbersome. Once the playground has been completed, local residents will be allowed to purchase trees or benches through tax-deductible donations, funds generated from which can be used for further expansions.
