North Sea countries come together for a green energy ‘supergrid’

Eco Factor: Renewable energy supergrid to be developed in Europe.

Several North Sea countries have come together to develop a renewable energy supergrid that will connect wind farms across the north coast of Scotland, vast arrays of solar panels across Germany and hydro-electric dams located in Norway’s fjords.

The first European electricity grid dedicated to renewable power will become a political reality this month. A network made up of thousands of kilometers of highly efficient undersea cables will be made at a cost of up to €30bn and would ensure that renewable energy being generated in different parts can be supplied anytime.

The system would also act as a giant 30GW battery for Europe’s clean energy, storing electricity when energy demand is low. The North Sea grid would also act as a backbone of the future European electricity supergrid, where more energy will be generated from renewable energy sources.
