Eco Factor: Proposed residential development with terrace farms.
Modern residential architecture needs to do much more than simply provide a shelter to live. Most architectural firms are proposing designs that are green and generate renewable energy as well. Designer Greg Chung Whan Park is proposing an ecologically conscious residential development that features vertical farms.
Dubbed Agricultural Urbanism, the proposed residential project combines thousand year old terrace farming with modern construction. Each level of the development will have its own terrace where crops can be grown privately and communally. Harvests can also be shared and sold to supplement incomes.
The irregular shape of the design maximizes sun exposure and allows the plants to get the maximum possible sunlight to aid their growth. The farms also double as a natural insulating layer that regulates interior temperature.
