Eco Factor: Zero-emission scooters powered by electric motors.

Adding some two-wheelers to the ever growing EV list Yamaha has introduced the EC-03, a zero-emission electric scooter. The scooter is cheaper than most of its competitors and could well be an instant hit in Asian markets.

The scooter is powered by a 50V lithium-ion battery developed by Sanyo, which can last 26.6 miles on a single six-hour charge. The electric scooter is expected to be launched in Japan in September with a price tag of $2800. In a similar report Smart is expected to reveal a new electric-powered, single track vehicle at the Paris Motor Show in September.

Smart’s new two-wheeler will be a plug-in scooter and is being developed as part of a new broad-based mobility strategy aimed at taking Smart into different markets. Company insiders say that the new scooter is being developed in conjunction with prominent component suppliers and can be produced in different factories around the world, including existing plants in China, India and Thailand.
