Eco Factor: Solar-powered EV charging station.
California-based company SunPods Inc., is all geared up to unveil what it calls as the world’s first factory-built, solar-powered electric-vehicle charging station at the Cleantech Open event in San Jose this Thursday. Called the “SP-300 Plug-N-Go,” this green charging station is capable of charging two vehicles simultaneously. It also stores excess energy, which can then be sold back to utility companies.
Weighing nearly 3,000 pounds, the SP-300 Plug-N-Go incorporates up to 12 solar panels for each 2.4-kilowatt module. SunPods expects to sell out a decent number of its revolutionary product to municipal fleet operators, parking-lot and shopping-center owners. Measuring 10-feet long and 20-feet wide, the solar-powered EV charging station that will provide both 120-volt and 240-volt EV charging will set you back by $14,000 plus about $3,000 for the charger. The company claims to manufacture nearly 5,000 SP-300s annually.
