Eco Factor: New art center made from reflective steel to save energy.
Institut Le Rosey, one of the most prestigious educational institutions in Europe will soon see a new addition to its campus that will be a reflection of innovation, architectural excellence and sustainability. Bernard Tschumi Architects’ ingenious design helped him win an international invited competition to design a new center for the performing arts at the institution. Dubbed the “Carnal Hall”, the low, stainless-steel dome has minimal external surface area that behaves like a thermal shield.
The dome has incorporates many side openings and a terrace cut into the center near the apex not only offers mesmerizing views of Lake Geneva, but also has green plantation. Rather than using conventional cladding materials, the structure uses reflective polished steel that saves energy and shelters the glazed areas from sun and rough weather.
This stunningly design dome houses an 800-seat concert hall, a black box theater, conference rooms, a learning center joined to a library, a teaching center, practice rooms for music and the arts, and several relaxation spaces featuring a restaurant, a cafe, a student lounge, and other amenities. The building is surrounded by beautiful landscape, giving students the perfect environment to think creatively.
