Eco Factor: Solar-powered planter collects water from ambient air.

The Solar Planter by designer Kevin Cheng is an innovative in-home planter that takes advantage of its natural environment and placement. The planter uses solar energy, as well as artificial lighting, to power a condensation system, which is used to collect moisture from ambient air. The planter also records light and water input related to the plant being grown. Using the data collected, the flow of water is optimized to maximize plant growth.

A running fan is also placed in the exit vent to create suction within the planter, which draws air from which moisture is collected. The planter is connected to a Peltier module that acts as a thermoelectric heat pump. The cold sink absorbs heat from the surroundings and transfers it to the heat sink that radiates it. The air in the planter, cooled after condensation, is released into the room.
