Student team to spend the summer living on a waste vegetable oil-powered bus

Eco Factor: Low-emission bus powered by waste vegetable oil.

In an effort to spread awareness of sustainable living and green technology, a team of 12 Dartmouth students and some recent graduates are spending their summer living in bus that is powered by waste vegetable oil. The Big Green Bus, which originally was a 1989 MCI coach, was converted by the student team to run on WVO.

The bus also includes an air-conditioner that is powered by 10 12V deep-cycle batteries that are connected to a 4000W inverter and powered by four solar panels. The even better the eco-credentials of the bus, the cabinets and flooring have been made from bamboo. The tour departed from Hanover on June 18th and has its last scheduled stop in Cleveland on August 29th.
