Eco Factor: Hydrogen fuel cell generator produces electricity sans emissions.
Developed by Ballard Power Systems, the world’s largest fuel cell generator, dubbed CLEARgen, will soon be on its way from Burnaby, B.C., to Eastlake, Ohio for a five year trial run. The deal between Ballard Power Systems and Ohio’s FirstEnergy Generation Corp will allow the activation of the this fuel cell generator.
The mobile fuel cell generator, that’s the size of a tractor trailer, is capable of generating up to 1MW of clean electrical power, which is sufficient to power 500 homes on its own. The fuel cell generator uses hydrogen to produce electricity and releases only heat and water as by-products. The CLEARgen is not only useful for utilities, but can also provide clean energy solution to remote communities around the world, which are too far from the electrical grid and rely on polluting diesel generators for power.
