Eco Factor: New line of exploration submarines powered by lithium-ion battery.
Coming from the house of the Dutch luxury submarine manufacturer U-Boat Worx, the “C-Explorers” are here to beat the already existing C-Quester models by a humongous difference in terms of the diving depth. The recently announced new line of exploration submersibles are certified for diving to depths from 100 to 1,000m, which is a massive improvement over the current 100m divers.
In order to provide optimal underwater viewing, the C-Explorers will come with a new catamaran-style design combined with a fully acrylic transparent pressure hull. The new line comprising of the C-Explorer 1, 2, 4 and 5 models, which seat one, two, four and five persons respectively comes equipped with a variety of optional accessories like robotic manipulator arms, underwater navigation systems, high-definition video cameras and an integrated remotely operated vehicle (ROV) that can be controlled from inside the sub.
U-Boat Worx uses a 10 kWh lithium-ion battery to power the C-Explorer 1, while the other models use a 40 kWh lithium-ion battery. The C-Explorer line will range in price from $358,377 for the one-seater model $1.07 million for the five-seater model. The company plans to unveil the C-Explorer 2 at the Monaco Yacht Show. It is claimed that this submarine with luxury fittings like air-conditioning system, iPod stereo dock and champagne cooler can dive in water for up to 12 hours at a time.
