Hydrogenics awarded contract to develop fuel-cell powered aircraft

Eco Factor: Zero-emission aircraft to be powered by hydrogen fuel cells.

Hydrogenics has been awarded a contract by Germany’s national research center for aeronautics and space to supply a series of next-generation fuel cell modules for aircraft power applications. The research center is currently working on several multifunctional aircrafts such as the Antares H3 that is scheduled to hit the skies in 2011.

According to the contract, Hydrogenics will be supplying several heavy-duty, high durability HyPM HD10 fuel cell power modules. The design and final assembly of the fuel cells will be performed in Germany by Hydrogenics. The company has stated that the order is of significant importance for air travel in general.
