Eco Factor: Solar tracker with a performance rating of 22.5KW.

Germany-based IMO has unveiled the biggest solar tracker of South Carolina that has a footprint larger than most first homes. With an area of 1614sqf, the metallic square turns to face the sun’s brightest spot to capture more energy. The futuristic-looking 53-foot-tall structure has a performance rating of 22.5KW.

The tracker will be used to power IMO’s manufacturing operating and utilizes dual-axis technology to trace both the sun’s azimuth and latitude. The system increases efficiency by 30 percent and enables it to generate about 42,000KWh of electricity annually, which is equal to the amount of energy generated by burning 34,000lbs of coal.

The energy produced by this gigantic solar tracker is enough to power almost four homes for the year, while offsetting about 87,000lbs of CO2, which according to the company is equal to planting 6,700 more trees.
