Archipelago: Wetland-styled IT center outside Delhi aims to purify River Yamuna

If you ever took a look at both the River Ganga and River Yamuna in the Northern Plains of India, you would understand the extent to which water pollution has found its way into the once pure water sources. The new Archipelago project aims to not just design a green hub outside the nation’s capital but also extend its services in the purification of River Yamuna. They plan to play a role in the giant task by designing the ‘Archipelago’ commercial space and IT center in a wetland fashion, which purifies the nearby water river.

Archipelago designed by Monolab is set to take place in the Greater Noida Area (Just outside New Delhi) and the entire IT center is housed in a 15cm-deep wetland-like base. This shallow water area is fitted with natural filter beds and steel nets covered with vegetation. Using helophytes water plants, the water from River Yamuna are diverted to this wetland space, purified and diverted back to the river downstream.

This also serves as a natural cooling system for the Archipelago itself, with air blowing over the vegetation covered wetland base. There will also be islands and pockets of commercial spaces, a main structure that will hold top IT companies and also space for wellness-centers, clubs, luxury hotels and even a few high-end living spaces on top.

A network of pathways in the form of wooden stepping-stones and suspended steel bridges will link the individual island structures to the main center. In all, the Archipelago not just looks and feels wonderful, but helps out a greater cause in style.
