Melbourne-based Plantic, a manufacturer of bio-plastic made a new plastic. It is not only 100% plant-based, but also — unlike most bio-plastics – can degrade in water!
These plastics are mostly starch-based made from corn. The color used to paint this plastic is also plant-based and no toxic additives are added. Can we then call the plastic edible?! It amazingly degrades in water in just about 20 seconds!
Plantic is applying mind-blowing technology to the trays of chocolate and cookie along with some packaging as well. But, its vulnerability to humidity and not-to-mention moisture, has made its usage limited. These plastics are so safe that you can also consume them along with the cookies and chocolates.
