Popsicle-stick ship has eyes set on Atlantic voyage

Recycling has caught everyone’s attention lately owing to the increasing concerns for the environment . You will be surprised to know that the world’s largest recycled object has been made of ice cream sticks. A Viking ship made from 5 million recycled ice-cream sticks set sail across the Netherlands’ IJsselmeer lake on Friday and its stuntman builder, Robert McDonald hopes to cross the Atlantic ocean later.

Named ‘Thor,’ the 15 meters long full-sized Viking ship replica has been fabricated by gluing together 15 million recycled ice-cream sticks. The project was accomplished with the help of 5,000 school children and the upshot is now ready to rule the seas. McDonald thinks of putting the ship up for auction later for charity purpose. For now, he has built three such ships with the ice cream sticks which he received from all around the world.

But, he is still looking for donations to make his dream of crossing Atlantic on the Thor a reality. What inspires me a lot is the fact that it’s the world’s largest recycled object and made of ice-cream sticks. Hats off to McDonald and the children…literally! And, of course, Bon Voyage!
