Tom Benson has something more to boast than the 153 washers, 148 dryers and 15 flat-screen TVs his laundry is equipped with – it is the eco-friendly way of supplying the 24-hour laundry with hot water – by using the 36 10-by-4-foot solar panels.
This environment friendly source of hot water has made the laundry boast of possessing the most cost-effective solar systems in the country. The hangar-sized facility in the Chicago suburb is also one of the largest one-of-its-kind systems in the country.
Building the environment hugging hot water system cost Benson $150,000.
