Eco Factor: World’s largest tidal turbine on Scottish coast to generate 1MW electricity.

Giving a massive push to alternate energy resources world’s largest tidal turbine is all set to be revealed later this summer. Dubbed as ‘Atlantis Resources AK1000’ the turbine will be installed at the European Marine Energy Centre in Orkney, Scotland.

Simple in form the turbine has been designed to withstand harsh environment along the Scottish coastland. It weighs 130 tons and stands 74 feet tall, with rotors nearly 60 feet across. The turbine can generate 1MW electricity from both ebb and flood tides which is enough to power 1000 homes. According to the company sources the turbine will have zero impact on the surrounding environment including the marine life since it rotates at slow speed of six to eight revolutions per minute.
