Eco Factor: Airship powered by the power of the wind.

High flyer Stéphane Rousson is planning to fly a wind-powered airship across a stretch of Mediterranean waters. Dubbed the Zeppy 3, the airship will include 200sqm of helium and will use only wind power and a curved carbon foil based on the chien de mer by Didier Costes.

The 65.6-foot-long and 16.4-foot-wide Zeppy 3 was recently on display at Le Bourget in Paris and features an adjustable cable that will run from the pilot’s cradle to the curved carbon foil skimming the surface of the water. The airship itself will act like a sail, stabilizing the structure in the water.

The creator is hoping to take the wind-powered Zeppy3 from Toulon in the south of France over to Calvi in northern Corsica. The 150-mile trip is expected to take between 10-15 hours.
