This year’s International Contemporary Furniture Fair held in New York saw yet more stunning recycled artwork from design students. A student project from Appalachian State University called Black Valley Design Collective (BVD Collective) debuted their stunning WASTE NOT Lamps series featuring light fixtures prepared from 100% post-consumer plastic utensils. Moved by the shocking mount of plastic utensils wasted with every meal service in fast-food restaurants, the team created these beautiful lamps from utensils collected from BVD group lunches at a fried chicken restaurant and aims at creating awareness about the kind of plastic waste generated by such smaller units and the possibilities of reintegrating that waste into functional capacities again.
