The giant discount retailer, Wal-Mart Stores seemed to be determined in pushing the world towards energy efficiency by encouraging 200 million shoppers to save energy by mass introducing a compact fluorescent light.
These lamps have a clear advantage over the widely used incandescent light! It uses 75 percent less electricity, lasts 10 times longer and produces 450 pounds fewer power plant-produced greenhouse gases.
Though, it is 8 times more expensive, compared to a traditional bulb, compact fluorescent light eventually saves each consumer $30 over the life of each bulb. So, you can easily overlook its peculiar appearance, as it gives off a harsher light as well.
H. Lee Scott Jr., the chief executive of Wal-Mart Stores said,
The environment is begging for the Wal-Mart business model.
Stephen Goldmacher, an executive at Royal Philips, the Dutch company, one of the world’s largest light-bulb makers, told the group, (Selling 100 million bulbs) is not a slam dunk by any stretch of the imagination. If this were easy, it would have happened already.
