Eco Factor: Zero-emission car powered by batteries.
Volkswagen has unveiled the first battery-powered Golf Blue-e-motion, which will be followed by a fleet of 500 that will be deployed for customer trials in Germany next year. The vehicle is based on the MK VI Golf and features 85KW traction motor and a 26.5KWh lithium-ion battery bank.
The vehicle’s electric engine will provide a driving range of about 90 miles. The company’s first mass-produced EV, the E-Up!, will launch in 2013, which will be followed by battery-powered versions of the Golf and Jetta.
