I know, for any Asian living mainly on fish diet — it would be hard to accept what the Australian scientists are planning — to kill carp, also called koi, that have invaded their waterways, as it is considered a valuable resource in many Asian countries. But, in Australia the fish is generally viewed as a major pest! — the new project’s leader, Mark Crane of the Australian Animal Health Laboratory opined.

The new strategy to kill the carp that the scientists planned is not chemical or other poison that would affect the rest of the ecosystem adversely – its virus! The virus — Koi herpesvirus — which if unleashed could kill the fish. Before using it, the Australia will examine whether the virus will have any impact on certain native fauna.
