VIA unveils the world’s most power-efficient processor

While Intel and AMD are busy manufacturing multi-core, energy-eating CPUs, someone has to think about the environment and the consequences multi-core processors have on the climate. VIA has taken up that task and have announced the world’s most power efficient CPU.

The company’s new CPU is based on the VIA CoolStream Architecture that takes the processor to speeds up to 500Mhz with an ultra low power consumption of 1W peak power and as low as 100mW idle power. The architecture has made the 21mm X 21mm NanoBGA2 package has enabled the VIA Eden ULV processor to squeeze in the powerful x86 platform.

The processor also packs in the world’s fastest x86 security system – The VIA PadLock Security Engine, which also features the world’s most comprehensive set of security tools to enable real-time military-grade encryption of data.

The CPU will not even eat power to munch graphics as it comes coupled with an Ultra Compact VIA CX700/M system media processor, an advanced all-in-one digital media chipset, which has a maximum operating power of just 3.5 watts. All these high-tech but low on power integrations has made the complete system to run with a maximum power of 10 watts.

Now, that’s what I call a green processor!
