Via ARTiGO DIY kit: Cut down on your PC’s power consumption

artigo
Modern day office rooms and even homes could really use this. I suppose most of the power consumption in modern day offices and to an extent in some of the homes (which have those internet of gaming freaks) comes from the computers. Most modern computers promise a lot except saving power. I suppose even when I bought my own PC, power consumption was never a specification that I bothered about or even had in my mind. But then saving power is much more than just saving the money in your bill. It is about taking that tiny amount of responsibility to save the planet. Every unit you save directly implies that less Carbon emissions are released.

Now here is new kit that helps you make your system very energy efficient and low on consumption of those watts. . Via’s ARTiGO system is built around what the company calls a Pico-ITX motherboard; Pico because it’s very tiny, and ITX for the basic layout and form factor of the motherboard itself. The Pico-ITX Builder Kit does not include memory, hard drive, keyboard, mouse, or monitor; what you’re getting for your $299 is just the tiny little case, the motherboard, and an external compact power adapter. So basically you take this and build a low-energy consuming system around it.

The little gadgets allows you to build a system that is more efficient and consumes a lot less energy than the greenest computers that are around today. The Artigo which includes 1GB of RAM and a 7200RPM hard drive, consumes just 12W at idle and 8W when in standby mode. Even at full throttle so to speak it consumes 23W. That is a lot better than the green computers that use a good 45W. It is obvious that this wonder gadget can really help you save plenty of power, especially if you work in a firm with plenty of systems that run 24/7.
