Versatile Performance Vehicle: A clean evolution of the SUV

SUVs are now tagged as gasoline guzzling behemoths that are a bane for the planet thanks to the amount of fuel they consume, their very poor fuel efficiency and the excessive wastage of resources that happens with their use. Many have called heads of states that happen to use SUVs lavishly to cut down on them as an attempt to preach the green gospel across the globe. But the latest concept design of Versatile Performance vehicle (VPV) tries to correct the SUV faults so the future roads are cleaner and greener.

The design of the VPV is set for the year of 2030 and that seems a long way away at this point. Not just that, it claims of using nano technology and special carbon fiber build that will be available at some point in the future. The idea is to design a vehicle keeping in mind the technical advances that are currently happening and predicting the course that they will take in the next 29 years.

While the idea of making lavish SUVs greener and more planet friendly is something we are all for, the concept of VPV seems a bit too vague to go along. Yes, it would be real nice to build an ultra-light, luxurious and highly fuel efficient SUV that does not drink fossil fuel by the gallons. But still, with no solar/kinetic energy regenerative systems to power it, or even a simple all-electric engine in place, the design does little in terms of evolution.

Maybe instead of trying to preserve the SUVs in the currents state, it is better to switch to more energy efficient, smaller and practically useful vehicles that cut down the unnecessary.
