Venturi claims its Astrolab is the first high-performance solar vehicle in the world to be commercialized. Covered with 3.6 square meters of photovoltaic cells with a sheet of nano-prisms to make the most of incident solar energy the Astrolab requires only a small amount of energy to run.
Powered by a 16KWc motor, the car does not require permanent exposure to the sun, thanks to the latest generation of liquid cooled NiMH Venturi NIV-7 batteries that store the energy. Inspired from Formula 1, the vehicle is built on a carbon monocoque chassis that makes it ultra light. The Astrolab can cover 110km in a single charge and the top speed can reach 120kmph. Obviously, since the two-seater uses solar energy as a fuel, it is a zero emission, zero ‘consumption’ quadricycle.
