Eco Factor: Discarded car batteries to store power during off-peak hours.

Japanese automaker Nissan believes that owners of electric cars might soon be able to power their homes using discarded electric car batteries. On average, a battery at the end of its automotive life has still got about 70 percent charging capability, which isn’t good enough to power a car but could be just perfect for storing cheap power during off-peak hours.

Nissan is working on a business model which will allow EV owners to generate cheap household power after midnight, at about half the price of electricity generated during the day, to power their homes during the day, reducing both expenses and carbon footprint.
