Eco friendly initiative: Asura aims to power the US with solar energy

Ausra, a Silicon Valley solar power company is trying to generate enough solar power so as to meet the electricity needs of all Americans. Ausra Inc. has assembled a team of solar power researchers, project developers, and financiers to make reliable, solar thermal power stations a reality. Ausra’s power plants drive steam turbines with the help of sunshine to make solar power. Ausra hopes that their solar farm which is to be built in California’s Mojave Desert will be able to replace carbon-spewing power plants. Hopefully their more than $40 million funding from Silicon Valley venture capital firms Khosla Ventures and Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers will help them to fulfill their aspiration of making America more eco-friendly. Ausra is also developing a solar storage technology, so that this stored solar energy can be used for nighttime operation or when the sun is not available. Solel and BrightSource are two other solar power companies which are giving Ausra keen competition. Good, isn’t it? The more the production of green electricity the better it is both for the manufacturer as well as for the consumer. Hopefully, with the success of Ausra, more solar power companies will be encouraged to produce green electricity on a larger scale, and thus help in reducing our dependence on fossil fuels and most importantly lessen global warming too.
