U.S. Military develops a generator that can run on garbage

Developed by the U.S. military, the Tactical Garbage to Energy Refinery (TGER) takes eco-design to the next level in the truest sense. Running simply on leftovers, shredded documents and ammunition wrappers at their headquarters in Iraq, the machine first breaks down garbage into small bits and then heats it up till it becomes a synthetic gas. The gas is then combined with the ethanol produced from the fermenting of foods and liquids and the resulting fuel in turn runs the generators. Thought the machine still requires about 5% of diesel fuel to power traditional generators, it is still a giant step in the green direction.
