Eco Factor: Speaker strap powered by renewable solar energy.
Industrial designer Adam Hammerman has conceptualized the Uplink Audio Strap System for sport enthusiasts who love music but don’t want to lose situational awareness by using headsets. The strap system can be attached with hydration packs or backpacks and can connect with a variety of mobile devices.
The Uplink is equipped with four ultrasound speakers that resonate the air within the user’s ears to create sound that only the wearer can hear. After connecting with a cellphone, the device can allow the user to listen to music, take calls, hear podcasts or listen to voice-guided GPS directions.
The personal sound environment makes the user more alert of the surroundings, as it doesn’t impair hearing of sounds outside the ultrasound zone. The device features flexible solar panels that generate energy for the four speakers and can also be used to charge connected mobile devices.
Controls are ambidextrous and fitted into locations where they will not interfere with activity. A tensioner system has also been included to allow for the perfect tuning of the sound environment by varying the distance between the speakers.
