ULVAC Inc would be developing and showcasing a very innovative battery-charging mechanism for power-assisted bikes putting together a battery charger, two small solar power and wind power generators called the “Hybrid Cycle Pit”. This charger will be utilizing renewable energy sources for recharging bikes whose usage has increased steadily over the past few years.
The site of the Hybrid Cycle Pit will be in Chigasaki City Park (Japan) which is located next to the baseball field and has commenced operations since July 10, 2011. The charging mechanism of the Hybrid Cycle Pit comprises of a small-sized 1.0KW wind power generator, a 1.6KW solar power generator and a battery pack that contains a lithium-ion back-up battery, a battery charger, a discharging and charging control system.
The canopy of the battery charging system contains eight solar energy generating cells and with the dual system of generating energy, the battery charger can recharge a total of ten bikes in a day. A similar battery charging system has already been installed in Chigasaki City’s Tsuruminenishi Community Center since April 1, 2011.
The demand for these eco-friendly power-assisted bikes is growing by the day as they are used as rentals for parks, tourist spots, municipalities and other leisure facilities. Hence, ULVAC’s Hybrid Cycle Pit is a green and clean way to recharge these bikes by using our abundant renewable energy sources and contribute to a great cause!
