Toyota launches GRMN Sports Hybrid concept at 2010 Tokyo Auto Salon

Eco Factor: Low-emission sports car powered by a hybrid engine.

Toyota, in conjunction with Gazoo Racing development team, has launched the GRMN Sports Hybrid concept car at the 2010 Tokyo Auto Salon. The car is based on the company MR2 platform and combines a conventional gas engine with electric motors for an efficient drive.

The car features a 3.3-liter V6 to power the rear set of wheels, which is coupled with an electric motor to propel the front wheels. The dual-engine car generates up to 392hp and can hit a speed of 60mph in less than 4.5 seconds.

The sports car is also claimed to be able to run in an all-electric mode in the city. Autocar is claiming that the company is planning to launch a car on this platform as early as 2011, as an answer to Honda’s CR-Z.
